I’m not very fit or flexible – can I still do yoga?
This is the most common misconception that prevents people from coming to a yoga class. yoga is not about how flexible you are, but about strengthening your body and spine in all directions. You can enjoy the benefits of yoga regardless of your level of flexibility! Through yoga practice, you’ll become more flexible. yoga has something for everybody, including athletes who may have tight muscle groups due to exercise and also for people who are just starting out their fitness program.

What if I cannot do a certain yoga pose?
We will never embarrass or ridicule you but find one that works for your body and skill. We create a safe environment where each student learns and absorbs at an individual level.

I'm afraid I won’t be able to hold the posture…or I’ll look foolish!
In class, you can work within your own limits. If you need to come out of a posture and rest, you should definitely do so! yoga is non-competitive: everyone’s body is different, and each student will find some postures easy and others difficult. I maintain a safe, comfortable, non-competitive environment in my classes. It doesn’t matter what the student next to you is doing- this is your chance to focus on you without fear or comparisons or judgement. yoga is truly for everybody.

Why do I feel nervous coming to my first class?
It’s all new and different. I will never compare you to others or make you feel self-conscious. yoga, ultimately, is about healing self-consciousness to transform into self confidence.

I tried yoga once and I couldn’t walk the next day!
Each posture can be adapted to different skill levels. As you become more accustomed to yoga, you can move onto deeper variations of each posture. I can  help you adapt the postures to your level of ability and help you practice yoga safely. yoga will teach you to listen to your body and work within your limits.

How is yoga different from stretching and normal exercise?
Traditional exercise is goal oriented: how many push-ups can  I do? Can I touch my toes? yoga by contrast is a process. The idea is to focus your awareness on what you’re doing and how you feel as you perform the postures. In exercise, you fail if you miss your goal. In yoga, you succeed by trying. yoga involves more conscious awareness of breath and the work you are doing with your body. Poses and movements are unique and have specific purposes and effects on the body. The breath is used to deepen stretches and flexibility. Focus and concentration are key ingredients in yoga practice.

Will yoga help me lose weight?
Yoga can make you look and feel better, regardless of your weight. That being said, yoga can help you slim down in a couple of ways. First, the exercises will help you burn calories. In addition, they help tone muscles and improve your posture. yoga can help you to lose weight gradually and permanently when you practice regularly and eat reasonably. yoga improves the digestion capacity of the body which reduces excess fat consumption by the body. With persistence, patience, and dedication, you can lose inches and  develop muscle tone and strength that might never come from other forms of exercise. As you become stronger and develop greater stamina, a more intensive yoga practice will help your body maintain weight control and excellent tone.
